Distraction
It is often in the most unusual and unpredictable ways that you capture truly special photographs of animals.
I could never of dreamed to capture a barn owl portrait such as this one when i began documenting these barn owls.
On this particular evening, I'd been watching for a few hours whilst the owls went about their typical routines when I heard a squeaking sound to my left.
My best guess was that a young rabbit had noticed the owls sitting on the wall and started screeching for mum.
It didn't take long before one of the female owls came to investigate with me.
The image captures the closest these owls have ever landed by me.
Only a few metres away, she paused for a second to make sure i wasn't a threat and to check out my camera before shifting her attention to the noise she originally came to investigate.
In that brief moment i was able to capture a portrait of this owl looking directly into the camera, a dream shot.
